Melinda Kuoch

Melinda Kuoch is a graduate from the University of California, Irvine. She received her Bachelors of Arts in Psychology with an emphasis in Cognitive Neuroscience. During her time at UC Irvine, Melinda served on the board for the Cambodian Awareness Organization (CAO), first as the External Public Relations Officer (2010-2011), then as the President (2011-2012). She is heavily involved in the Cambodian community, both locally and abroad.

Through the CAO, Melinda volunteered with the non-profit organization The Cambodian Family. She has helped out with youth conferences, high school outreach events, and community health fairs. She is also a member of the Orange County Cambodian American Network in which community leaders meet to discuss issues of social equity in the Cambodian American community.

In September 2011, Melinda traveled to Cambodia with four other CAO club members to initiate their annual student-run humanitarian mission. The focus of this trip was on medical care, public health awareness, and education. Melinda and the students were able to distribute medical supplies, school supplies, and basic living necessities to five underserved communities in Cambodia. They teamed up with HOPE Hospital and accompanied them on their mobile clinic reaching out to the needy communities outside of Phnom Penh. They also shadowed the HOPE Hospital Homecare Team to follow-up with HIV patients in the rural areas.

Melinda is currently performing a year of service with AmeriCorps, a federally funded national service program. Through this program, Melinda is a Community HealthCorps Navigator placed at a non-profit, federally qualified health center (FQHC) in Long Beach. She performs patient advocacy and waiting room management, and is in constant contact with the Khmer population. In the future, Melinda hopes to go to medical school to obtain her medical degree in Psychiatry. She is a believer in positive mental health practices, and hopes to dedicate her life to serving underprivileged communities.
