David Kem

David Kem graduated from California State University, Long Beach and received a Bachelors of Arts degree in Sociology with a concentration in Interaction and Group Relations. He currently works at the corporate headquarters of Mass Connections Inc., in Cerritos and plans to further his education by pursuing a master's degree in Public Administration.

In 2006 and 2007, Kem participated in the Cambodian Heritage Camp in Fraser, Colorado, where he volunteered as a facilitator and camp counselor for native Cambodian children who were adopted by American families. He played an integral role instructing various cultural drumming workshops and acted as a mentor for over 100 participating families throughout the United States.

In 2007, Kem and a delegation of Cal State Long Beach students participated in a study abroad program in Cambodia. The group worked with six local non-government organizations (NGO's) in Phnom Penh to implement art projects that were therapeutic in nature for underserved children. He was placed at Little Sprouts, an NGO housing Cambodian orphans whose lives had been dramatically affected by HIV/AIDS . Witnessing firsthand the struggles and hardships these children faced inspired him to find ways to help address social needs abroad and at home.

In 2009, Kem traveled back to Cambodia to accompany the organization's second sponsored child who underwent a successful open-heart surgery at Sunrise Children's Hospital in Las Vegas, Nevada. He went with a convoy of board members from Hearts Without Boundaries and while in Prey Veng Province, they distributed noodles to local villagers in rural areas as part of a humanitarian delivery from Dexter Middle School in Whittier, CA.

The team also visited a number of poor and sick children suffering from congenital heart defects. The call to action to provide medical attention for Cambodia's destitute children had never been more dire. Thus, Hearts Without Boundaries is working tirelessly with a group of doctors and hospitals in the United States to build a cardiac facility in Cambodia so medical care could be more accessible.

Since then, Kem has been involved with many organizations to support his local community. He currently serves on the Cambodia Town Board of Directors as a Council member. He also volunteers as a Disaster Action Team member and Disaster Services Human Resources (DSHR) member for the American Red Cross, Greater Long Beach Chapter.
